Learn more about where he got his start, his past with Egypt Valley, what he does in his spare time, and more.
What lead up to your career at EVCC?
I swam and played water polo for Rockford High School and then GVSU. I had many fun years of coaching both sports, including being the head swim coach for Egypt Valley from 1996-2006, while I was finishing school and during my early years of teaching. I loved it and had such a positive experience!
I moved into administration in 2006 and my summers were no longer available as an athletic director and then principal. Now, my schedule allows me to return and I’m looking forward to it!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Getting reacquainted with some of the awesome families that I knew from before and meeting all the new kids and parents that spend their summer days at the pool. I’m also excited about working with the great staff at the club.
When you’re not at work, where would we find you?
I have a 13-year-old son and 11-year-old twin girls that keep me very busy. Their travel soccer schedule can be a bit much, but I love to watch them play!
What is your favorite swim stroke?
I swam butterfly, backstroke and sprint freestyle.
What is one thing that members would be surprised to know about you?
I loved playing and coaching water polo. Our program has experienced a great deal of success and I had the great fortune to work with the current Chinese Olympic coach and his son, who is a 5-time Olympian for Team USA.
If you see Mike around the club or by the pool, be sure to stop and say “Hello!”
