Born and raised in Traverse City, Kristie Liapioshkin is the new Golf Shop Buyer/Merchandiser at Egypt Valley.
Learn what trends she’s seeing in golf attire today and what drew her to Grand Rapids.
Traverse City is such a beautiful community. What made you decide to make the move to Grand Rapids?
The opportunity to join the Egypt Valley team full time was certainly a deciding factor. I love the city and miss it. After living in the Chicago area for a while, Grand Rapids is a great compromise. It has that bigger city feel but is close enough to home in T.C. to make weekend visits. It’s also close enough to Chicago for day trip adventures into the city there.
What styles do you think are the biggest trends in golf attire today?
The current men’s styles are definitely retro inspired. There are some 50s, 60s and 70s inspirations with prints and styling, as well as a good deal of 80s classic “preppy” looks that are making a comeback. For ladies, dresses are still a popular trend, as well as the incorporation of more lifestyle style pieces that can be worn on and off the golf course.
Tell us about your buying experience.
I was a buyer at Traverse City Golf & Country Club for 10 years, and was with Inverness Golf Club in Inverness, Illinois for a while. However, I have over 20 years of retail management experience, including corporate retail as well as private boutique. I also gained some experience on the other side of the buying table as a sales representative with Tail Activewear.
What is your favorite podcast?
While I don’t listen to podcasts, you will find quite a mix of genres and artists on my Pandora channel. There is everything from Elvis to The Scorpions, Def Leppard, Toby Keith, and Shania Twain, as well as some En Vogue and Salt n Peppa—even some Michael Bublé and Ray Charles!
What is your favorite subject to draw, paint or photograph?
Art has always been a passion of mine. With my photography, I love black and whites, and usually prefer to shoot landscapes or portraits. When painting or drawing, I prefer to do abstract or surrealistic pieces.
What is one thing members should know about you?
Oh, goodness … I’m pretty easy going and I really enjoy talking with people and getting to know them. I come from a very large family, so family is important to me and we spend a lot of time together. Lots of Sunday dinners, cousins’ nights out, and weekends camping with my parents and aunts and uncles. Date nights with my kids are my favorite!
