Meet Danielle Buth
Kelsey Shoemaker
Published Date
Egypt Valley holds a special place in the heart of member Danielle Buth, seeing as her family roots extend long and deep with the Club and its previous lives.
“My family has been part of this Club—Egypt Valley, Green Ridge and Masonic—from its very beginning,” Buth shared. “My maternal grandfather, Eivind Ericksen, one of the early members, won the Club Championships in 1925 and 1932, along with the Presidents Cup in 1933, 1934 and 1936.”
Buth’s maternal grandparents called Green Ridge Drive home, and her parents Richard and Martha Buth had their wedding reception in 1943 at the Old Colony House of Green Ridge.
“The Club has a picture of this reception that used to be in the EVCC Trophy Room, along with a picture of my grandfather after winning one of his Championships,” Buth said.
If you’ve ever visited the Club during the holiday season, you’ve surely seen a piece of Buth’s family history, perhaps without even realizing it.
“If anyone wonders where the sleigh that resides in the entry during the Christmas holidays came from, it was our family farm in Belmont,” she said. “It helped to provide winter entertainment for us as a family and now hopefully creates memories for Egypt Valley families as they visit the Club during the Christmas holiday season.”
Buth’s personal association with Egypt Valley technically began before she was born, with her parents becoming members at Green Ridge in 1952.
“I swam on the swimming team, where I spent much of my early days at the pool and took a few golf lessons,” Buth shared. “We had inter-club swim meets in the ‘60s and beyond, and my three sisters and I learned to be competitive and develop a love for all things sports. Eventually, I won four golf club championships at GRCC in the late ‘70s and ‘80s.”
Buth officially joined what was then Green Ridge in 1978 after graduating from Michigan State University.
“I swam on the women’s swimming team my first two years of school, and then, when MSU formed a golf team in my sophomore year, I became part of that team,” Buth recalled, sharing how this formation truly cemented her love for golf. “It was a new era for women in sports and my participation was a direct result of my formative years growing up at Green Ridge CC.”
As a member of Egypt Valley, Buth has participated on several committees and was elected to the Board of Directors in October of 1999. She served as the first female Club President from October ‘05 through September ‘06. She’s currently retired and worked for many years in information technology sales originally with IBM before spending the majority of her career at Siemens.
“These days, you’ll find me on the golf course two to three days a week, with an occasional dip in the pool,” she said. “It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be an integral part of this amazing club.”
If you see Danielle around the Club, please be sure to say, “Hello!”
