As the Buyer and Manager of the Egypt Valley Pro Shop (and golfer herself), Sam Karwowicz knows a thing or two about the gear needed to take to tee off on the courses. From buying inventory for the shop and placing special orders for members to assisting team members with day-to-day tasks, Sam works hard to make it all happen. Take a minute to get to know her better!

Please tell us about your background and where your passion for your work comes from!
I grew up in Grosse Pointe where golf was very popular. When I turned 13, my dad taught me how to play and I fell in love with the game immediately. I enjoyed the mental challenge and the fact that it was always changing.

When I first got into golf, I began by teaching after-school lessons and summer camps. This was an excellent opportunity to introduce the kids to the game. As time went on, I soon developed an interest in the management side of things. This led me to work as a pro shop assistant at Lochmoor Golf and Tennis Club and the "Ross" at Boyne Highlands.

Explain a bit about your Egypt Valley journey and how you came to work at the Club.
For several years, I stuck to what I was comfortable with. I have always been intrigued by the retail industry, and I wanted to pursue a career in buying. Although I was not familiar with Egypt Valley, I realized the Club and job were the perfect fit for me.

What’s your favorite part of your job at the Club?
One of the aspects of my job that I enjoy the most is the opportunity to interact with members. As a buyer, it is crucial for me to understand what everyone likes and offer a variety of things.

What kinds of items/styles should members anticipate seeing in the coming season in the Pro Shop?
We will be keeping most of the same brands, while also adding new ones. Our focus is on getting more lifestyle-based items, such as golf pieces that can be worn both on the course and to dinner after a round.

When you're not at the Club, what could you be found enjoying?
My family lives in Harbor Springs. I enjoy unwinding there with outdoor activities such as golfing and skiing. Additionally, I like to explore new places, shop, and try different restaurants with my friends.
