Please share a bit more about your role at Egypt Valley and what your responsibilities are.
My responsibilities basically are to maintain and or enhance the gardens around the Clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, pond and the front entrance. I also start a lot of annuals in the greenhouse! We have 34 planters, the back patio area, and many areas on the property that I will plant up so we can have some beautiful and colorful flowers to enjoy throughout the year. You may also see me cleaning up the parking lot, pruning trees, raking up leaves, and doing anything else that will enhance the beauty of Egypt Valley.

Please tell us about your background and where your passion for your work comes from!
I love nature, wildlife and the outdoors, and I enjoy beautifying and creating spaces. I have landscaped many homes throughout the years and worked at and managed a popular garden center in Grand Rapids for 35 years.

What’s your favorite part of your job at the Club?
I enjoy coming to work and seeing the wildlife and the scenery; it’s just spectacular. I like the gardens; they are always changing from month to month, giving you a different experience throughout the year. It's hard work, but it’s satisfying!

When you’re not at the Club, what could you be found enjoying?
When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my family: My wife and three children, ages 12, 15 and 23.

Anything additional you’d like to share?
If you have any questions on the plants or flowers in the gardens at Egypt Valley, you'll find that I love to talk about plants and I’m very friendly.
