Meet the Boven Family

The Boven family joined Egypt Valley in March of 2021 and have been loving everything the Club has to offer ever since! From the non-profit they co-founded together to their history with golf and more, get to know the Bovens a bit better!

Brian and Sara Boven live in Rockford with their three children: Jacob (age 15)—who attends Northpointe Christian for school, and Ella (age 12) and Max (age 8)—who both attend Rockford Christian.

Professionally, Brian started pouring concrete at the age of 15 with his uncle. Not long after at the age of 19, he bought and owned his own concrete flatwork company. Since, Brian has worked in property management, as a director of a steel foundry and eventually landed in real estate, where he is top producer and specializes in lakefront properties.

Sara works as the Executive Director of the Rockford non-profit Homes Giving Hope, which Brian and Sara co-founded together. Its mission is to provide independent living opportunities, with light support, for adults with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Four years ago, our ministry work began and has grown by one home per year,” Sara said. “This fall, we hope to open our fourth home and are working on a strategic plan with developers to be able to accommodate and serve several more men and women on our growing wait list.”

When it comes to golf, Brian began his journey with the sport at age 10 due to his father being an avid golfer.

“Golfing was a way to spend time with his dad without interruptions and he immediately fell in love with the game,” Sara shared. “Golf requires goals, determination and a dedication to get better that has helped shaped him into the person he is today.”

Since having a family, Brian has tried to instill a passion for the sport in his wife and children; and so far, they say it’s working! The family were previously members at another local golf course, but found themselves fond of Egypt Valley’s natural beauty and the flexibility 36 holes with a walk on course allows for Brian's often unpredictable schedule. Though they’ve not won any awards just yet, they look forward to their first one!

“We recently became more connected through the men's league,” Sara said. “Before joining, it was difficult getting to know other members. Now that Brian is a full-time player and not a sub, he looks forward to seeing new faces and meeting new people each week.”

The family finds Egypt Valley special because it feels like a destination retreat without the travel.

“The meticulously maintained grounds and safe environments feel like a place we can relax and enjoy one another,” Sara said, adding that when not out on the golf course, you’re likely to find the family enjoying the patio with friends or swimming in the pool.

Outside of the Club, the Boven family can be found enjoying their Rockford community events and friends who have become an integral part of their drive and passion. They enjoy boating, taking vacations or helping others when not cheering on their kids playing volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, golf, football and any other sport the new season may bring.

Other members may not know the Boven family have always wanted to belong to a Club like Egypt Valley.

“Brian was a caddy as a child and dreamt of becoming a member at a golf course when he grew up,” Sara shared. “Being members at Egypt Valley is truly a dream come true for both him and our family.”

If you see the Boven family around the Club, be sure to say, “Hello!”
