Meet the Fawcett Family

Having joined Egypt Valley in 1998, Claire and Ken Fawcett have spent a great deal of time at the Club, including their children being involved in extracurriculars while growing up and choosing the Club as the setting for a number of memorable family milestones.

Ken recently retired as a primary care physician from Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health), where he spent the latter years of his career putting programs into place to address health inequities while supporting medically underserved, economically disadvantaged, and marginalized communities. Claire worked in advertising until she became a stay-at-home mom. The couple also have two adult daughters, Paige and Hannah, who live in the Grand Rapids area. Hannah and her husband Drew are also members at Egypt Valley.

“We began playing golf in our 20s, as we had family members who were very passionate about the sport,” Claire shared. “Our two daughters were very active in junior sports, including the swim team for many years, as well as golf and tennis.”

When the family first started visiting clubs and investigating their options, they found many of Egypt Valley’s amenities to be a huge draw.

“The beauty of the two courses, dining experiences, and the richness of the junior programs made our choice to join Egypt Valley relatively simple,” said Claire, who has served on a Club Committee and was very active with the junior swim team program, timing meets and writing out award ribbons for the swimmers. “We’ve used the facilities to host a variety of family gatherings including Mother’s Day, rehearsal dinners, and the wonderful dining staff have catered dinners and parties at our house. We’ve been able to enjoy a diverse social schedule, and Egypt Valley has been a central part of those experiences.”

Ken And Claire have played golf when time allowed, but always on Wednesday nights for "date night," as well as many twilights in the summers.

“We have enjoyed taking golf lessons with our golf shop pros,” Claire said. “Now that we are in the retirement phase of our life, we are playing on a regular basis together—socially and in league—when we aren’t spending time with our 10-month-old grandson.”

Other than golf, the Fawcetts enjoy traveling, now that time has made itself available.

“We are doing as much traveling as we can, visiting the places we've been reading about for years; most recently Antarctica!”

If you see the Fawcetts around the Club, be sure to say, “Hello!”
