Meet the Formsma Family

Ryan and Steph Formsma love the environment at Egypt Valley, as it provides great opportunities to connect with new people, play on awesome golf courses and relax after work. Keep reading to get to know the couple and their family a bit better!

The Formsma family joined the Club in 2014 and have enjoyed all of the Club’s amenities ever since.

“We joined the same year as the Goossens family,” Steph shared. “Since then, Jon and Ryan have been league partners. Currently, Ryan also serves on the House Committee.”

Ryan grew up in Grand Rapids and is Senior Vice President at Erhardt Construction. Steph, originally from Kalamazoo, works in Digital Marketing for the Deckorators brand at UFP Industries. The couple’s children—Davis (17) and Sydney (14)—both attend Northpointe Christian High School and also enjoy spending time at Egypt Valley.

“Ryan began playing golf at 10 years old, fondly remembering rounds with his grandpa at Green Ridge and later at EVCC,” Steph shared. “He played high school golf at NorthPointe Christian, where EVCC was their home course. Now, Davis plays on NorthPointe’s golf team, with EVCC still serving as the team’s home course.”

Davis has benefited from lessons with John Forton and John Seltzer, which have helped him improve during his high school golf career. Steph has also enjoyed participating in the 3-hole Ladies’ League for the past two years, finding it a fun way to connect with friends while gaining more experience in the game. Sydney enjoys playing volleyball for NorthPointe Christian High School, in addition to a club team.

“We appreciate that Egypt Valley has 36 holes, which provides greater accessibility for play. Additionally, the courses offer a level of challenge that sets them apart from other clubs in the area,” Steph said, noting the family also loves spending time on the patio with the gorgeous flowers, in addition to enjoying the outdoor summer concerts at the Club.

There are a number of reasons the Formsmas find Egypt Valley to be a truly special place.

“Jeff and his team do an amazing job maintaining the course, as course conditions can significantly impact the level of challenge,” Steph said. “Elevated greens add to the difficulty, requiring more precise shots. During dry summer conditions, a missed approach can send the ball unpredictably bouncing in any direction.”

Of course, the rest of the Egypt Valley team play a massive part, as well.

“The staff is incredibly kind, whether you're dining in the restaurant or attending larger events,” Steph said. “Their warmth and hospitality truly make it enjoyable.”

Other members might not know that Ryan has had two hole-in-ones on the same hole (no. 15 Ridge) at Egypt Valley—the first during high school and his second 23 years later.

If you see the Formsma family around the Club, be sure to say, “Hello!”
