With the spring season upon us and EVCC opening in earnest, there are many exciting updates to share this month.

As mentioned in the most recent letter, the investment in a capital study has provided a great benchmark for the timing of reinvesting in every capital asset at the Club. With help from Mark Mossing, Kyle Lundy and the management team have been reviewing the timing and cost estimates provided by Club Benchmarking. The good news is, the useful life of many of our assets—like greens and tees—have outlived typical expectations, partly due to the excellent effort from Jeff Holmes and his team. However, we do have some deferred maintenance to catch up on in the coming years. The Finance and Greens Committees are currently working together and following the Master Plan to come up with budgets and timelines to present to the Board for consideration for the next investments. Over the coming months, I look forward to sharing more with the membership on how that work is coming together and what work we could see beginning in the next year or two.

As it relates to 2022 projects, work continues to progress on the pool project. We are doing everything we can to keep this project on time and it’s certainly still possible for the project to be substantially complete by Memorial Day Weekend. There’s much that can change within our timeline, with the unknown of Michigan weather, supply chain issues and what we may find when we tear up the existing pool deck concrete. In addition, the Club has applied for a permit to drill a new water well at the Ridge Halfway, allowing us to open this amenity for the first time in several years.

One request we have continually received over the last year from the membership is clarity with the dress code. In an effort to maintain our culture as a family-friendly Club with a casual environment, as well help simplify expectations for members and staff, an ad-hoc committee was formed to review the policy. Staff will be communicating updates to members in the coming month. Thank you to Jessica Bernhardt, John Parker, Mary Beth McMahon, Alan Hoard, Kelsey Ferris, Rebecca Vander Baan and Tim Duflo for volunteering their time to update our dress code as necessary. We remain committed to ensuring the best member experience for all members when visiting the Club, and these updates were needed to support this commitment.

Finally, the Club schedule is being finalized for the year, and food and beverage operations will be expanding to offer regular lunch service in the dining room beginning the first week of April. With the full season upon us, we are excited to be at full membership again and to have a waitlist for both playing members and social members.

It’s truly shaping up to be another great year at the Club, and the outlook for EVCC has never been better!
